What is the significance of keyword effectiveness index in search engine optimization

    Is it right to select the keyword which has got high keyword effectiveness index for search engine optimization ?

    KEI or keyword effectiveness index is a ration that shows how much useful a keyword can be.
    Simply get monthly keyword count and divide it by total results in google (when you search in google it shows (Page 1 of about 1,050 results 0.08 seconds here 1050 is total result)

    higher KEI means your keyword has more searches and less competition so it is easy to rank :)

    your preference for keyword selection should be

    1. Higher Searches
    2. less competition

    KEI is nothing but ration of these two things :)

    I've never heard it called that before

    IMO it is a mistake to judge competition simply by how many competing pages there are. There's more to it than that.

    To judge the competition for a keyword it is far more effective to analyse the top 20 spots. It is they who are your real competition.

    You need to analyse their page rank, amount of backlinks, quality of backlinks, kw in title, kw in URL, age of domain etc

    Then & only then can you make an informed judgement as to how fierce the competition is.

    So in answer to the OP...it's much to simplistic to simply base your kw selection on KEI only as there is more to it.

    Keywords should be selected in such a way in which it has less competition and more traffic for the particular keywords.

    KEI is the process to choose best keyword for your site, because keyword selection is very important for website and this is the main activity performed in onpage optimization.

    Formula of KEI:: (searches)*(Searches)/ Direct competition of that keyword

    where

    searches= searches shown by keyword suggestion tool
    direct competition= search that result in google search box directly

    By high keyword effectiveness...Do you mean alot of search results? I think big, if you want to get tons of traffic or a long period of time, then optimize your site for the largest key phrases in your niche.
