what is the shortest time a website can get PR?

A friend site got G PR recently after a year or more he launched this site, and he has got a lots of links on the site. Another friend site got PR within a month with just one link. Anyone could figure it out what is the shortest time a website can get PR as far as you know? The G PR seems quite strict these days, what it is? Genuine, logical answer will be highly appreciated.

That depends on the time of the snapshot before the update.

The shortest time for any of my websites was 5-6 weeks.

    Thanks Brian

The most logical answer is "On the next update". Every update, you have a chance to increase, or lose your PR.

There is no other way to answer your question.. There isn't an almanac that keeps track of every website on the internet, nor does anyone but Google's Engineers, and Mathematicians understand the exact algorithms that control who gets what and why.

You can't base your success on your "Friends" websites. Even if you do the exact same thing, there are many variables that cannot be duplicated, so quoting your friends is an exercise in futility, there are a million sites out there with different stories and levels of success....looking at 2 of them and trying to come up with a hypothesis is like saying every brunette can dance just because you saw 2 of them do the running man.

So there is no real way to answer "How Quick?"

I have a blog who went from unranked to PR3 within 21 days.. with some random link building (by placing blog comments, automatically through a software I have). But this was 6 months back..

GPR was very strict recently and a website I was hoping to gain at least +2, didn't had a change in the PR.

Google has come up with a new challenge for us.. wants us to work harder :)

Only google knows when the next PR update will be, but estimations are that it will come in august/september this year.

It is pretty much just luck of the draw, Google updates visual page rank around every three months. So if you build a new site and get some links just a bit before the update you can get a page rank quite quickly.

On the flip-side it appears visual page rank does not mean much and in my opinion I agree, all my best traffic sites have low or zero page rank.

    Hi

Google updates Page Rank every 3 months so whenever this happens it may be that your website gets a PR change

for those who got their PR update in 21 days or so ,buddy its just that when you started your site then Google update date was just 21 days far so you got lucky

so just wait for the next google update and till that time do SEO work on your website

    good luck with your website:):)

    thanks,
    Ankur

The shortest time is equal to the amount of time between when a link to your URL goes up on another site and when that link is subsequently discovered, crawled, and indexed.

Your URL will be passed PR when Google knows about the link. Google will update your URL's 'real' PR immediately although the Google Toobar will continue to show "Page currently not ranked by Google" until the next Toobar PR update.

Forget about Google's Toolbar PR. It might show PR 0/10 yet your site might be PR 3/10 or 4/10... Or it might show PR 3/10 or 4/10 yet your URL may actually have 0/10.

Google Toolbar PR only gets updated once every 3-4 months typically. But your real URL is updated constantly as Google discovers new links to your URL or discovers that others have dropped links to your URL. By the time the Google Toolbar PR update is issued it is already out of date. You are looking at a mapping of your 'real' PR from some unknown point in time in the past.

Just because you see a star in the night sky does NOT mean the star exists. It could have burned out years ago yet still show in the sky because it's light is still traveling through space. So it goes also with Google Toolbar PR. Take it with a grain of salt.

You people are aware that the Toolbar PR update is meaningless... It's your URL's 'real' PR that you will never know at any point in time that matters the most... and even then PR has VERY little effect on how you rank for a particular keyword phrase.

Forget about PR (unless you are selling links - it's the ONLY thing PR is good for because there are idiots out there that are willing to pay big dollars per month for a single high PR link when they could get much better rankings by spending the same amount on for several low PR links from relelvant sites) and worry more about how you rank for your targetted keyword phrases and how much traffic you're getting.

I'd rather have a PR0 site that ranks and gets traffic (and therefore has a chance to make me money) than a PR8 site that doesn't rank for crap and doesn't get traffic.

PR is just to base your work off of, if you work really hard and the update comes around and your PR is still at 0 it means you were not doing enough work.

I have seen 2 weeks as the shortest time to get a PR1. The site was launched just before PR update. :)

It all depends on your link building strategies. When you feels that page rank is coming or making an update, try to build links as much as you can. Focus to quality ones that are related to your niche. But based on my experience, PR is really unpredictable. I got PR5 in one of my blog without building any links on it. Anyway, I suggest you focus more to rankings that will bring huge traffic that may convert to leads/ sales.
