as long as there are internet business out there, they will need the help of SEO, although there has been a lot of changes nowadays like google removing pagerank, and now they are working on to devalue anchor text for anchor text can easily be spam to increase SERP.. these changes are things that will evolve SEO into a much serious business where in only the educated and open minded people will benefit.

We will most likely see search become for localised and user specific - this will naturally affect SEO in the future

As long as there will be Search Engines - there will be the SEO industry.

It has been recognized as a Niche Market - bcoz - it evolved --

and it will keep evolving with times and Search Algorithm change.

Your question is -- will human survive in a Waterworld (Kevin Kostner starrer film) when it really happens when the arctic ice melts fully in the next 30 years!!!

Or will we evolve with the change in the global climate and survive!!!

Really, a weird question to ask.

Sounds like a NEWBIE question to me!

The winner will adapt and accept any changes. If you don't than you'll be left behind :(

SEO has never been more popular as a marketing tool than it is today. The recent downturn in the economy has actually made it an even more sought after profession.

As far as the future of SEO... as long as their are search engines that rank pages, there will also be SEOs.

SEO will continue to be a good marketing tool. For as long as search engines exist, SEO will never die. Companies will still opt for the services of SEO professionals, with or without recession.
