Good design is just an aspect for making repeat visitors. It boosts the confidence of visitors and in itself is fairly important for retaining those visitors. But design is not everything. If you have excellent content then people could sacrifice their eye-sore and even then come back. There's also a type of webmasters that get unlimited traffic. They don't need repeat visitors cuz they get good qualified traffic hence great clicks too. Good design is not something that you have to neglect. We're not living in 1999 anymore. Wake up!
I was only mentioning one small tid bit. Obviously SEO is the KING. You get the traffic to your page and good things will happen. Good Luck.
I agree, but my opinion anyway, is that I just dont spend hours on end designing my sites. I place that further down the list of importance, and something that you can always go back to later. Of course if you're good at it, its easy to make good looking websites in a short amount of time (or pay someone to do it!)
That is... easy to understand. Making money always takes work. Build a website about a subject you enjoy and update it daily. Include AdSense and a bunch of affiliate programs with products and services that are relevant to your website. Make your site about the content not the ads. Update the site daily for a year without giving up. Focus on delivering quality content and making your visitors want to return. Concern yourself with improving the user experience. Now, a year later, you're making money. Maybe even enough to quit your day job. Without even having a marketing plan you will find your site in the search engines and with other sites linking to you because you have quality content on a particular subject. Build it well and they will come. By year two, you'll be hiring people. It is easy, it just doesn't happen overnight. Most people are on their way to success when they give up. Do what you enjoy and stick with it. That's the secret. - JD http://www.BlogAboutRetail.com A Blog About Retail Sales Online.
LOL now that is funny. This is a great thread just as many are on this forums. These threads have helped me in just the short few days I have been here. 150% increase by using some of the techniques that I have learned. Now next big thing is to get one of my sites that is receiving 2000 uniques per day to acheive the same 8.5% CTR of one of my much smaller sites. Thanks for all the tips. Kevin
I think it's all about getting more and more traffic. My adsense earnings are directly proportional to the traffic I receive.
I think you are right to a point. However, on my one site I have made some changes as suggested by a few members that said to not give them enough information and create a want to click the ads and now I get an 8.5% CTR on that site instead of 1.7%. I would say that the info works. Kevin
I even see as high as 20% CTR average on a few sites, and as high as 100% on new sites with verry little traffic! Of course it never stays like that! The traffic is a very important factor and role as well. For example, on that same site I had 20%, if I could double my traffic, I'm sure the CTR would drop, but I would still make more money. CTR's mean nothing unless you are also willing to provide the number of impressions too. I totally agree that you should not provide too much information on the pages, the ads should be the next thing they click on!
Ok, before anyone crushes me for asking, (but I'm new to forums and techno jargen regarding CTR and Adense)... what are CTR and adsense? Can they improve my business?
nobody won't crush you as long as you didn't change your avatar. CTR is click through rate, number of clicks divide by number of page impression x 100. If you do it right, you will make a living from adsense like most of the people in this forum did.
are you just want to flirt with me or you really do not know? its simple, since you already have a website, first step just apply for adsense program at http://www.google.com/adsense Once you get an approval, come back here for more tips
Keep reading the threads about adsense here, a lot of good advise and tips. If you want a good understanfding of adsense and it's relationship to adwords (highly recomended), you can get a free crash course here http://www.factsaboutadsense.com/insideinfo.htm, but don't buy the ebook, every thing else you need to know will be here in these forums! The basic information is still worth reading since it's free, go for it!
I really don't know... and thank you for your help. No doubt I'll be back in a sec with more questions...
Seriously... I'm sorry if I appear to be a complete moron, but I really don't do much stuff on the internet apart from browsing for funnies and porn.. I meant PRAWNS. Yes, I have my own website, but I have a webdesigner who does all that stuff for me. I really have no idea about adsense... I take it that's a bad thing?
I told you what you should do, READ ALL THE THREADS ABOUT ADSENSE! There is no short cuts, it requires work. Try reading the threads for the next few days without asking any questions. Instead of posting a question, write it down, and chances are it will be anwsered while you read all the threads on adsense. Come on, now, go to your room and do your home work!

Surely that should be "There ARE no shortcuts"? And read the whole thing? Are you crazy? It's about 10 days reading.
