What is the sandbox?

Sorry if this has been explained in detail elsewhere...

What is the sandbox? Can someone offer an explanation of what it is, why it is, and maybe how to get out of it?

(or just point me to another post if you know of one)

    Thanks!
    Gary

It's a common name for a sort of "trial period" where Google ranks a new web site pretty low for a period of time until they decide you're "legit." Popular evidence suggests the nature of the sandbox, but Google does not confirm that it even exists. There's no real way to get out except to wait, and it could take 3 months, 6 months, a year, and different people will all relate different experiences. Keep your site clean with good content. Don't try and spam the search engines or it will hurt you.

Do a search on DP for sandbox and you'll have many threads to read on the subject. Not everyone even believes it exists (though I do). Best thing to do is get on with making as many good links as you can, work on your content as BD said. If you are a new site and have all your SEO ducks in a row MSN will pick you up and if you are lucky so will Yahoo.

Get it right and by the time you come out of the sandbox your climb in rankings might just take your breath away. Good luck and here's to more of those 0.47 clicks.

Consider it a monkey on your back in the big race, never knowing when it will fall off.

Personally I don't believe in a sandbox. I have two relatively new sites ranking high within 2 weeks of their releases.

It all depends on competition imho. The more sites you compete with, the less chance you will rank well.

Actually, google engineers have mentioned the sandbox in speeches before.

You can avoid it by being found thru high credibility sites linking to it.

A sandbox is when SEO wise you can't be any more productive than a kid is when playing in the sandbox!! It's also where you learn wiki language.

    Case in Point.
