i've been into this from a while but the practice i usually do is to check out:
    relevancy of keyword
    the number of searches
    competition on keyword
    density on the site

but some one told me that i just do nothing and i don't even know about keyword research.
how would any of you like to help me out of this situation ? do i really know nothing ? and if i do than what are the other factors of keywords research?

I think Keyword is not rocket science because when you optimize your website it returns in searches for certain keywords but you do not know which keywords are the most commonly searched and have least competition. So, there are five keywords to research for a keywords that are given below:-
1)Make a list of what you would want your website to return in searches for.
2)Go to Google's keyword research tool and type in each keyword individually.
    3)Export,the list returned to excel.
4)In excel go to "data on your toolbar" and "sort".
5)Finally,delete all the keywords where the search volume is too low or the term is not relevant to your website and list down to 5 or 6 keywords that you want to optimize your site for.

Keywords are only a part of the total equation. How you make the keywords work for you is all in how you use them as you develop your site. When I first got started I tossed keywords in the Meta data, not understanding their relationship to the text on the site. More, I didn't have a clue about how to discover niche words that had enough searches, yet were not so popular that I would have a chance to make a showing in the search engines.

Keywords are an art and a science, but not rocket science. There is a method to it that thousands have learned by diligent research on the topic. You can too.

There are many tools for keywords research but all are automated. So, manual keyword research is the best practice to get higher ranking in search engines.

    Some factors:

    Don't go beyond the theme
Find out the top keywords of your site theme
Search the competitors by top keywords
    Analyze Keywords of competitors
    Be specific
