Dear developers, I'm interested to develop my project that should be represented the next: 1. Social network for professionals with standart functionality (comes together, pm, groups with forums, general forum, indicator of connections between strangers, blogs) plus additional section "Groups", hereafter "Groups2", with equal functions to standard section "Groups". Type of network - linkedIn, Xing (no music, audio, photo, video etc). 2. Billboard (buy/sale items). Only members of groups that created in section "Groups2" (pls. see above) can post ads in billboard. All ads should be shown on the member's personal page who post the ads and on page of his group in section "Groups2" he/she belongs. Sample of how billboard has to look like here - any from http://mobile.de/ Also should be considered: ~20 000 users daily, ~2000 online at the same time, ~100 000 user accounts, ~20 000 all kind of groups, ~200 000 ads at the same moment. I checked DZOIC and SE. But I am not sure... Please give me an advice which cms/cmf should I use to do it? What moments should I consider to make the right choice among numerious cms? Thanks for your response!
If I were you I'd consider using Drupal as your CMS, as I find it to be the best social networking software in use today. We developed a rather large social network with it recently which is one of the most sophisticated Drupal implementations on the Web. Click my signature and see the "Featured Project" to see more. Feel free to PM me any time if you have any questions or would like a ball park quote.
This is the same company that created bloghoster - then abandoned it ... makes me think twice, but it does look good.
What do you mean by script? Are you looking for just one particular aspect/function of social networking that you need to plug into an existing site? If you want to make a brand new social networking site, try installing a content management system on your website. Joomla, Drupal and Plone are popular ones; here's a site that helps you compare a bunch of them - http://www.cmsmatrix.org/ CMSs have communities of developers who create extensions that you can add to the CMS, including social networking platforms. Community Builder is a popular social networking extension for Joomla. (http://extensions.joomla.org or http://www.joomlapolis.com/) There is a learning curve with any CMS. Good luck. Also, if you choose to use a CMS, go to your hosting control panel and make a new database first. It may take several minutes and some refreshing before your CP finishes the processing. When it's ready, click on it to get the DB details. You'll need this stuff when you install the CMS.
Well being half American I can not afford using the software made by such people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgmA2mECkGs Because of this: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8907/skadatebv0.jpg :-D Nothing racist of course, just a thought.
I'd recommend either SocialEngine or PhpFox. The latter has existed longer and is more popular with a greater variety of mods. SocialEngine appeared not that long ago, but its quality and speed of development are astonishing.
You can try phpizabi, if you are looking for open source and free software or else, you can go for phpfox.
i've tried a few of them....boonex dolphin seemed the easiest...although godaddy hosting gave me a problem with install!
