What is the regular .info price?

I would have thought it would be much cheaper than .com, but GoDaddy, while selling it fr .99 cents, has a rnew price of $10. How can this be? I would have thought a .info domain should be no more than $5 considering most .com domains are now sold for under $10.

Renewal at my domain host for a .info domain is around $7.99

$10 is much more than a .com domain!!

The .INFO domain names did not kick off as well as they hope for and thus they are offering ridiculously low registration prices to entice more people to sign up with them. Hopefully when they use the domain names, they will be trapped to continue using them in the years to come by renewing them. It is only when you renew that they are able to recoup their cost (ie second year renewal will cover the cost of the 1st and 2nd year).

People who registered and use the domain name will inevitably be forced to renew. So it is always best to take a look at the big picture, ie look at what it will cost you to keep the domain name for a forseeable future instead of being enticed by the first year below cost pricing.

It does not matter if the .info is not as popular as the .com, it does nothing to determine the prices. Most country TLDs are not as popular as the .com domain names and they are going for at least 2 to 3 times the price of a .com.

So, its best to go for .info only if you plan on building sites and then dumping tem when they've served their purpose.

Well, personally I would just avoid the .info domains because they are still not going to be popular for type-ins.

If you do not plan to keep it then it is best to find better alternatives.
