A great way to get traffic AND build quality backlinks at the same time is to comment on blogs in your niche. If you do this on a consistent basis you WILL get results and traffic. However, another good way is to join blog networks, such as Blog Catalog. I see a lot of traffic coming in from there in my stats when I comment in their discussion section.

PPC can add up rapidly if you do not build a strategy for using it. Most people do not, and simply spend lots of money trying to get PPC to bring them traffic. In my opinion a blog should be optimized the same way you do any other site, using an assortment of On-page and off-page SEO. Then you can try to buy an email marketing campaign like solo ads in order to bring additional traffic.

I think the Twitter might work but other SN like Facebook will not. The majority of the people that use this site, do so to socialize and it really will not render many benefits.

I agree... Blog commenting is one of the most common techniques used in Off-Site SEO. If done right it can not only increase traffic to your blog but also establish you as an authority in the matter.

Twitter, Facebook, if your contents are incredibly good. Otherwise, try to do social bookmarking on each fresh blog entries daily. SEO takes time and quite a bit of budget but well worth it in the long run. But since this is about quickest way, I say submit to at least 200 social bookmarking sites and see what happens :)

Starting a new website is a lot of work. Trust me, I know. Writing content can take a lot of time and energy but the most difficult process of all is to actually build a regular audience.

We all want visitors streaming into the site from early on but unfortunately, things don’t always unfold according to our expectations.

Traffic building can take a tremendous amount of effort but you should know that whatever traffic building efforts you’ve done serves as a foundation for future marketing.

I find the absolute quickest way to get traffic to your blog quickly is to join 10 or 15 forums related to your blog's subject and put the blog link in your signature. Post 4 or 5 posts on each forum every day and you will see a steady stream of traffic start to roll in.

Another great way is article marketing. Find 20 keywords that suit your blog and write 1 article for each of them. Submit the articles to Ezine Articles and Go Articles with a backlink to your blog in the resource box. This is slower but will still produce steady traffic.

Are you bookmarking your site? Pinging? Have your friends/family anyone with a different IP address do it for you there are sites that can do it for you...add your site to the RSS feeder..Google is looking there now for new quality content. and again as others said...backlinks...post to forums and blogs

    Best of luck

All very good suggestions. Make use of social bookmarking to get some quick exposure to your blog, and then pursue more long term methods including social networking sites, article submissions, etc. I've also tried PPC which can be a tough game play, especially if you cannot close the deal when visitors come from your ads.

You could try giviing away free ebooks on sites like getfreeebooks.com and free-ebooks.net. Those seem to be the two best. Perhaps convert some of your blog posts into a pdf and give it away on there. If the content is good it will be given away to more people. Have a resource box at the end of the ebook tallking about it. Would also recommend free press releases as if they get picked up it will drive a fair amount of traffic to your sites. You can advertise using stumnble upon to drive traffic as well. Costs 5c a click and can be rewarding.

Generally rubbish traffic though, if you're talking about the bulk package type things. Well, that's what I've found anyway.

What's your niche? It makes a difference.

    Hi guys,
There are millions of bloggers that give the idea a shot but then eventually give up because they feel like nobody is reading them.If you feel like you are currently in this position, try not to give up. It is easy to get blog traffic and to gain loyal readers if you are willing to keep blogging. Here are five methods that you can use to get blog traffic where previously you were struggling to gain readership.

    Maximize your use of RSS

    Build links from other websites.

    Write and syndicate content articles.

    Comment in other related blogs

    Keep blogging

To comment on the blogs in your niche is a good way to get traffic to your blogs.
You see, if you can comment on the blogs that support the "DoFollow" links, you can also gain many backlinks that are relevant to your niche.
