I recently made a thread asking for the name of the moderator that banned me for several months, but I was told that it doesn't matter who the moderator is and that Digital Point doesn't share the exact reason for the ban. Ok, well although I don't really see the point in such a policy, I suppose I'll just have to accept it. I mean, what do you do? But I am now left with the question: If a member is banned and does not know the reason and does not know who did the ban, then what point does the ban actually serve? As a lesson? A lesson for what? If someone doesn't know why they were banned or who banned them, there's no lesson in it other than: "You'll get banned when we say, and you'll like it -- and no we don't have to tell you why we banned you or who banned you". Now, as you can see I am being quite reasonable. By rights, if I might be bold enough to say, I should be flapping my arms pretty heavily here. But I just want to know what's going on. Several months of letters to DP never got a reply. A thread asking when I was returned was closed, and in my opinion I was treated like insufficient dirt. So now, at least tell me what banning members and not telling them why or who did it serves? And please don't have the last say and close the thread. I am struggling not to have a hissy fit about that last thread, but I wont re-open the issue.
From the amount of stuff I've seen on this site, it seems that it would be hard to be banned for something. No ideas as to what might have happened? Take care
Most people who get banned do actually know the reason for it. The moderator who does the banning should indicate the reason why, but I imagine they get tired of having to type reasons when they're banning hundreds of people every day.
I hope Mods have explained you clearly on that thread. The Multiple Accounts was one of the main reason, well if you have not created/managed additional account there is a possibility of your friend managing an account using your computer. Which you cannot justify it when the IPs are similar.
Most likely you were not banned for one particular thing. If you go to User CP it will show any infractions you have recieved. You probably had 10 small infractions which added up to a ban. However I do agree...the idea of being banned without knowing why sounds a little bit ludicrous...
In his previous thread he already said - the reason was "multiple accounts" ! No need to make a scene from what mods are doing here - that's their job .. In my eyes, this thread will be closed very soon ( by the same reason as your previous thread ).
it sometimes becomes difficult for the mods to explain the reason for ban especially when the number is high.... most of the times the person who is banned knows the reason and so it does not make sense to remind him.. although in your case it seems to be different..
No it was one big ban.. a "cya later" kind of ban. The reason given was multiple accounts. No one else has been on this computer, and no one else has my IP. I live alone. There were no multiple accounts. There's a good reason why I want to find out "who" did the ban, because after being online for 10 years and never being banned anywhere - I was banned from SitePoint, WebHostingTalk AND DigitalPoint, all in a space of 2 weeks. I have taken this up with each forum, but I am basically told that there's no one who has access to all three forums. But in my opinion, it doesn't look good. Something is going on. If there's no one person that has access to ban on three forums, there's almost certainly someone who has enough pull to convince someone with the buttons to ban me. Look, I am an adult. If there's "good" reason, then I'd like to at least hear what it is -- by who did it, so I can work it out. But being banned, having no emails replied to and then threads closed when I am finally able to post, basically telling me it doesn't matter why -- just get over it, is really stretching my view of reality.
well i was banned twice on dp for not following the rulez, and i have learned a lot since then, bans are like teachers for me
Yeah well not for me. I have dignity, and there's no point banning me - because I am a communicable human being - not a subhuman "thing". If I am treated like a turd, I want to get to the bottom things so it doesn't happen again. You live your like how you like.
In most cases, the reason for your ban is in the email you receive (if you have admin emails turned off, you don't get any notice). If it's self-explanatory, you may just get the ban reason like "bumping thread." In other cases, the mod will type up a longer explanation if it's not obvious. If you received something like a 7-day BST ban, you also may not get further explanation, as for months we've repeatedly said they apply to the BST announcement and the GC thread on the bans explains them further. Your personal ban was for a duplicate account (self-explanatory). And as I said in your other thread, we don't discuss everything we look at to determine duplicates, because we don't want people knowing how to avoid getting caught (given that many assume we only look at IPs). In your case, it was reviewed by someone other than the mod who banned you, and the ban was valid. Also, posting to complain about infractions and bans is not permitted (I see you've not only started two threads, but are complaining in others' threads as well). I suggest refreshing by re-reading the rules and stickies, and you won't run the risk of getting more infractions you don't understand.
