What is the purpose of a Directory

I was just wondering about this one.

I mean google or any of the search engines won't look and classify a listing looking at my categories.

It will probably go to yahoo or dmoz.

When I started Linkspub, my goal was to find some kind of way to send traffic over to my submitters along with some pr.

I think that is a good goal for a directory.

I wonder if I'm on the right track.
