yfs1 if you can write content that SELLS and PROVE the improved ROI I would pay a % which would work out as far more than $10 - $25 an article - something to think about. I know this is a hard concept to implement, but put on your cyce helmet and give it a try.

Also, I think a range of qualities and sizes.
I like my pages to be nice and heavy. 600 words, sometimes more.
what is really required is flexibility.
Also, a form would be good. making those requiring content answer questions about demograhics, style and many the many other factors
http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9710a.html - How people read on the web supposedly. So big paragraphs etc are usually not great - and this is what articles tend to be.
The idea situation is content, rather than 'just' articles.
And if an article was going to cost me $10 each I would happily pay $11-15 to have all those factors I mention considered. which is up to a 50% increase in your bottom line and probably would not take alot longer to implement,

Also, maybe basic html formatting (just li, H1 H2 etc) - as an option. Most of the stuff i get written goes online.

One of the main reasons I wanted to start a content provider site is what you mentioned above...Structure. Emailing back and forth in my opinion is unnecesary and increases costs. By automating the request process to a certain extent you gain a lot of margin.

Of course the information you collect has to be sure to answer every possible question and this is something that evolves to a certain extent.

I like the % idea although if someone was to go down that route, they may be better off just becoming an affiliate site and providing their own content.

    Nice thoughts though.

I'd be interested in knowing if there is an audience (readers) for 'generic' content.

I may be old-school but I thought the whole point of setting up a website was to share something original. Buying content and putting it up seems like missing the point ....or am I missing the point here?

Most of the content offered by posters here at DP is unique content specific to a category. There is a reason for generic content but thats free and can be had from places like goarticles.com

Travel articles would be of great interest to me. I would require low volume 1 amy be 2 a month but quite specific content, maybe to specific. For this, more sharp end writing I would be prepared to pay $30.

I would also be interested in padding, less specific, but greater quantity may be a bundle deal $50 buys x amount $100 buys Y amount.........

Please keep me informed with the progress of this venture.

To be enticed to pay at all, I would need to know:

    1) The content is unique.
    2) It is much better than anything I can get on free article sites.
    3) I do not have time to write it myself.
    4) The people writing for me are really expert in the field they are writing about and that they know how to write well.

I would then buy one or two, put them up on the site along with a bunch of free articles and look at my stats. Once these pages had been spidered, I would then be able to see if people entering through those pages or passing through those pages took the desired action - i.e. bought something / signed up for my newsletter.

If that was the case, I would then be in a much better position to determine whether I would buy more in the long-term and how much I would be willing to pay.

    I hope this helps.

No, you are not being old-school, it is just that some people do not have the skills to write their own content (or the time) and some web sites are meant for commercial purposes- not for sharing information. When you aim your website for commercial purposes you want to increase its traffic and viability. Paying someone to produce original content for you is a wise choice- you get professional content and your visitors will be happy and, hopefully, come back to your site.

stephenmunday - knows what he is talking about :p
It is a risk, always, to hire someone without knowing what he/she is capable of doing. You should always ask for a guarantee that the article you are buying is unique and ask the writer to assign all rights to you, so you can be sure she/he will not resell it.

Some interesting comments in this thread.

A professional writer who is an expert in their field will usually charge $1 - $2 PER WORD (most academics don't write for a hobby). So it would be interesting to see the quality of these articles.
