+1 I don't think I have ever seen a movie so devoid of hope, in my life. Even though it was a great movie, I don't ever want to see it again. I would also add: The Road Pan's Labyrinth Million Dollar Baby The Mist - Maybe more disturbing than sad, but If you made it to the end of this one, then you know what I mean.
'Grave of the Fireflies' is the saddest movie I have ever watched. I have cried all the time after watching it.

"An American Tale" do you remember the scene where the mouse have lost his family and he's on the roof. Second is really sad song.
Murder in the First. An old movie with Kevin Bacon. It's not really historically accurate, but it does paint a rather horrible picture of how cruel the prisons of old used to be. I wont watch it ever again because it really depresses me.
