What is the most important factor to maintain search engine visibility?

    Sometimes I see my webpages disappear from the google index. Usually they are very small pages with only a few sentences. I don't think that that is the reason though. Could it be the number of backlinks?

    Less established sites tend to fluctuate in rankings a lot.
