something i've finally learned over the past couple of days is whatever you're doing, keep doing it consistently.

If you've a list, keep them constantly warmed up.
send them useful info, free tools, pointers to good posts/articles.
keep them active.
then when you want them to take action - invest in a product/service, fill in a survey, etc, they're primed for action.

If you're sending in articles/press releases, the law of 7 applies. 7 exposures are typically required to motivate someone to take action.

people tend to equate frequency with credibility.
if they see 100 articles with your name on it, you'll be perceived as more 'credibly' compared to some guy who's only issued 2 in the last year.

stay focused and concentrate on 2-3 methods whether it's blog commenting, forum posting, article submission, press release submission, participating in commnunity blogging projects, joining a blog network (b5media, 9rules, etc) and you'll soon see the spike in traffic.

 

I would recommend installing the google sitemaps plugin as well, helps your new pages to get crawled much faster, therefore more searchers will find them sooner

 

The best way is definitely offline marketing and second best (tied) is Digg and Press Release.

And yes as frankcow said, install Google sitemap.

I think being an active participant in forums , social bookmarking sites and comments on other blogs are best ways to promote a blog.Of all these I prefer forums as my favourite promotion method.

 

Hey I agree with Tyler, as signatures are the very easy and effective way to promote, you just simply have to write good post or good comments.

Totally agree. The key is to do something repeatedly. I'm also amazed at how certain venues bring HUGE spikes in traffic--getting you all excited-- but immediately level out and leave you back where you started. Don't chase any one site's viewers. Chase the prospects you want to (ie. people who will be interested in what you offer). Once you figure out what they want, produce it, and figure out how to tell them about it, consistency alone will make you burn brighter than your competition. It's great advice and some I really should learn to follow myself

 

Create a network of your own with pool of Bloggers of similar Niche. Discuss, plan, strategies how to enhance the visibility of your blog in the forums, social networking sites (but Overdoing it). Imagine if I had put Links to my every word of this comment. Had you as a reader thought of visiting it. I am sure Answer is no and secondly you will be shrugged out of such discussion forums by the Administrators himself.

Blogging is like rolling 5 Balls in air and if you drop any one of them you are lost.

I think the most effective way to promote a blog is by writing unique and good quality article in a popular topic. Then you do not need to promote it your own. It will be automatically promoted by search engines and readers.

I think the best way you can get your traffic up is by social-networking. There is over 200 to 500 websites out there. They all have members and while they may use different languages there is nothing stopping you from using a google translator on your website.
