I was wondering what is the minimum wage around the world and what one can buy with it. In Greece now its 591 euro about 694 $ monthly for 40 hours (the average in 4 month periods) per week An engineer with 3 years experience gets 1000 euro 1173$ monthly with 9 hours at least sometimes 11 6 days per week. Now the prices of goods 1 euro =1.173 $ --- 1 kilogram = 2.20 pounds --- 1 liter = 0.264 US gallons Spaghetti 1 kg cheap 0.50 euro brand 1 euro Bread 1 kg 1 euro Milk 1 liter cheap 0.88 brand 1.40 euro Olive oil 1 liter 5.50 euro brand always Cheap olive oil =trouble Corn oil 1 liter cheap 1 euro brand 2 euro. Gasoline 1 liter 0.9 euro unleaded Diesel 1 liter 0.99 euro 1 KWh=0.07038 euro Please take the time to post so that we can all draw some conclusions at the end.
Have a good laugh... working day shift here is 8 hours on weekdays, and at least 5 hours on Saturday. Minimum wage? Wonderful $125 per MONTH
I presume this is in mexico. Unfortunately this matter is not for laughing, I recently learned that at egypt they work from sunrise to sunset for 30 euros per month and I am very afraid of what the future holds for all of us because as it seems instead of all people getting bigger compensation for their work the trend is to lower it as much as possible for everyone while the price of goods miraculously never stops increasing.
Some are some aren't. The main difference is what people want to buy. Many want the latest model of a car, of a mobile phone, more holidays, fashion pushes us (or forces us rather) to buy new clothing often, that's the real reason why salaries are short, and I am not sayiny that it's ok. Only, people put themselves in difficult positions, where others benefit greatly. I don't know if I was clear.
Are you sure, you are talking about Greece and not India? What do you mean by engineer, University degree? It sounds too low for anywhere in Europe.
Obviously if you want to buy things that you really cannot afford you are the only responsible for this. But there are some expenses that cant be curtailed without devastating effect on your way of life or your health. I would never consume the cheapest food because I have worked in food production and i know how are the production expenses trimmed. Thats why I stated the prices of most common goods like bread, milk and spaghetti and not digital cameras and cars
Absolutely sure Mechanical engineer 5 years university. if they need you, you might get 100 euro more, medical insurance and pension is included. When you are new (no experience) anything more than 850 is considered miracle.
We don't have minimum wages here in sweden. The union decides the wages. It works pretty good however, cleaners(who have the lowest wages) get atleast 2000$(not 200$ as in US but ten times more) per month. They can also feel safe, they can't be kicked out from the job as easy as in other countries. But it's pretty impossible for youths or immigrants to get a job due too union buerocracy. Most workers have been employed at the same place at 30 years or so. The union makes everything they can to make sure that they stay and keeping newcommers away.
Many greeks with high education comes to sweden get as much from social service when they are unemployed
I think they are coming for a different reason, perhaps the pic below? I'd move to Swedan for a chance at that!
What's your source on that? http://www.dol.gov/elaws/esa/flsa/screen5.asp Then some states have different minimum wages. http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm
Several countries minimum wage rates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage#Worldwide_minimum_wages
Swedish women look very sexy but give them a high heel shoe and they walk like a duck. Not very feminine and there is a lot less sex in Sweden than rest of Europe, contrary to the rumors.

Nothing like minimum wage in India...even if there is, no one is bothered about it...you can easily find people to work for you at 20$ a month. Bread - 0.66 $ per kg Milk - 0.33$ a litre Corn Oil - 1.1$ a litre Petrol - 1.04$ a litre 1 kwh - 0.1 $
