What is the main work of onpage optimization ?

Hi,
Please tell me the complete process for on page optimization like as meta tag setting, keyword density etc.
Also tell me the first step of on page optimization.


My another question is

If I have done reciprocal link exchange and after the some time my reciprocate site would be banned. then what would be effect on my site.

Would my site be banned ?

One other thing.. don't over optimize the page. Make your keywords naturally flow in the content without too many instance to bring up a red flag.

There are 3 directions to follow:

1. HTML code optimizing:
- put java script in external files; do the same with css; keep the file size as small as possible; try to avoid tables
- use semantic structure: H1 (only once), H2 (could be more than one)...
- use alt tags for images and title tags for references

2. tags optimizing:
- optimize title tag; it's the most important onsite factor you have
- write description tag
- if you are interested in Yahoo, write keywords tag too. Do not stuff it with keywords!

3. content optimizing:
- insert your keywords in the page content
