So I have been building links on social media sites and such but what is the importance of making sure the sites are related to my niche?
Like if I go to a social site that mostly talks about flowers but they offer a DO follow link in profiles and posts what does that do for my site being a money making site?
By the way a lot of these sites have a HIGH PR rating.

It would make sense if the social media site has a business / finance / internet / money making category and your links are on those 'relevant' pages. If it's a free link you are getting, get it irrespective of niche and relevancy and move on.

    Remember

Most natural links will be from non-related pages like general blogs. They will also use your brand name / site name in anchor text and won't use your 'keywords'.
