What is the going rate approximately for content creation?

I may be willing to hire multiple people to develop content such as:

    - write articles for existing sites to keep content fresh
    - create blog posts about various topics.

I am just trying to get a feel for what is available out there to see if it is worth it to pay someone for content.

    Thanks!

You should consider if you want to work with bulk companies or P2P ( person to person ) . Both have advantages and disadvantages.

Bulk : will cost you less
    P2P : Better content ( mostly, not always )

    I myself prefer P2P whether I'm a seller or a buyer.

My rate is 6 dollars for 500 words. But I don't know what the rest thinks :)

My rates are $1.5 for 100 words. But this price is negotiable. May go down to $1.25 if it's a long term contract. The content will always be original and of very good quality.

Well, rates depend largely on the product you're looking for. Here at DP, you'll find rates ranging from $0.01 to $0.07 or so per 100 words, and this is what people charge depending on the niche and the amount of research needed to write an article.

Since this is a relatively competitive market, you will find a lot of writers here on DP who are willing to charge around ¢1 per word, sometimes even less. Although I am a big believer in ‘you get what you pay for’, I really think it depends on the niche you need articles for. ‘General topics’ can be covered very well by writers, since research can be done easily and therefore the articles take less time to complete – thus the ability to charge such low fees.

With the bulk companies you will pay much less than employing a freelancer (I have seen as low as ¢0.4 per word recently), but they will generally outsource the work to subcontractors who may not have English as a first language. Although I think these articles are fine to ‘pad out’ a site so that they can be trawled by engines, I don’t think these kinds of articles make for good reading, or encourage repeat visitors.

Depending on your budget, try to employ a freelancer who specialises in your niche and accept you will pay a little more, but the difference in quality can be remarkable. Freelancers, from my (admittedly fairly limited) experience charge between ¢3-8 per word depending on niche, and many will offer bulk discounts. Research writers carefully and assess their writing style on these forums as well as in the samples they provide you.

Having said all that, if you just want ‘filler content’ then don’t pay the extra.

    Just my ¢2.

    JB

    P.s. I’m available for writing projects :p

After being a part of the DP community for the past 9 months as well as a writer for hire I have come to view the rate structure for writers like this:

When I'm hungry I eat. Sometimes I don't care that much about putting the time and effort into making dinner myself so I go out to eat. Some of those times I just want a quick meal so I eat fast food. Is it good for me? Not really but it fills my need at the moment. It's cheap but nobody would recommend that you eat burgers and fries every day of your life.

If you want to eat better and have more options you go to a better quality restaurant and you have to expect to pay more. You get better service, a better atmosphere, better food and a better overall experience.

If you don't want to pay a lot or eat junk food, make dinner yourself.

Hey Darwinstudios, as both a content buyer and seller I have 1 tip for you:

Pay more--you'll be glad you did. It's heartbreaking to receive content for your site that looks like a 3rd grade book report, no matter how little it costs, it will still make you feel cheesy.

    Just my 2 whatsits,
    Jon
