Haven't heard any buzz about Google Knol believed to be the force that will dethrone Wikipedia and Squidoo. Any experience (likes and dislikes) about Google Knol? Will it be suffer the same fate as Google Answers that was eventually shut down?
I haven't heard much about it lately. I also haven't seen "knols" coming up at the top of searches. I wonder the same thing.
I've inadvertently came across google knol a few weeks ago, I think it's too soon to tell whether or not it will be around for a long time.
What would people think if for only short period of time Knol was showing on top result? Manipulation on results. It will just takes time and it's fair to be not on top immediately.
What I've seen of it - a few badly written 'puff pieces' on unimportant subjects like dog food and astrology. It's like the dullest article site you've ever seen. I think you're right about it having the same fate as Google Answers - there's just no need for it, and it's not taking off.
If Google Knol and Google Groups keep showing up on top of search results, that is the end of all our SEO efforts. If you notice, posts from Google Groups are dominating lately in SERPs. Watch out. Google wants it all.
I used to write something on Google Knol but i get very a few responde from it. I prefer yahoo answer.
Google Knol has now made links built into a article do-follow to encourage people to create a new knol. Would be cool to have a link from a sub-domain of Google but am sure we are all aware that when knol has the content to compete with wiki these links will become no-follow links.
I actually didn't tried to use Google Knol. I also don't think that it is really that effective. But for now, I don't think that Google will shut it down. It's just a trial and error where in the end, if it didn't turn out good, maybe just maybe we will know what will Google do about it.
Ok, do-follow. But! You all know that soon it will be spammed to the full like it has been with Wikipedia. And for sure the links won't be counted by google at all.
It is nothing like wikipedia so I don't think it can actually compete against wikipedia. It seems more like the expert section on Ask.com
I think google was unsure whether or not to give all of their strength to their own pages.. They might have been scared of the backlash.
