It is not the speed of acquisition as much as the quality that matters. Getting 1,000 links that aren't indexed or are nofollowed doesn't help. Getting featured on a top 100 blog would drive traffic and link quality. Do both mabye?
Social bookmarking, Forum posting and link exchange. I don't use blog commenting as lot of them use "no follow".
I see a lot of people like forums. Has anyone tried a software called forum domination? I was having some success with 3 way links.
I've been doing things the old-fashioned way for a while. I used to just go to linkalizer and exchange links with anyone I could. Now, I find out that this is not a good way to build links and you can actually get penalized for having link farms. Well, I have a link farm on my site, http://www.giftsunusual.biz/html/resources.html and I'm wondering how many links it would take for google to penalize me and what I should do about it? Whether I should just delete them all for fear of getting banned or just keep it and not do anymore link farming? What do you guys think?

How do signature links do for link building? When I search my links for various sites, I never see the signature links show up. -Adam

Blog post and social bookmarking are the fastest for me, but I am not sure which is the best for ranking.
I find forums to be the fastest methods of getting backlinks, and article marketing ranks right up there as well.
Purchasing signature links seems to be going ok as well after looking at our analytics reports you can see.
I know a PR7 site with very few links...but it has quality links. Authority > tons of links with none at all
