What is the effect of adsense on directory submission?

I keep reading that some directories will refuse your site if you have adsense, while others only if you use excessive adsense, and others who say you should have it "below the fold"

Is there a consensus here at DP?

i accept sites with adsense at www.1stchoicesearch.com

BUT only sites that are well designed and adsense nicely placed so that it does`nt look like you are blatantly building website purely and simply for adsense

Some people also say they will reject a site that has suspicious blocks of whitespace where the Adsense would be.

Just build a site for your users, and try not to worry about how the directory editors will react to it. So long as you have plenty of actual, useful content then you will have no problem attracting directory listings when you submit.

I don't believe Adsense has had any negative effect on my acceptance rate in directories. I tend to have it above the fold, but limited to one block per page.

It's all about content. If it's Made for adsense but still has useful information and doesn't look spammy you're probably OK.

I have a directory and am happy to accept sites that use adsense as long as they also have plenty of content..

That is kinda what I thought. My site is in no way spammy, and I am building content like crazy. Sounds like I can apply to as many directories as possible!

I also accept Adsense type sites into my directory, and up until recently I accepted them on a free basis. Now I only accept them on a paid basis and only to the "MFA" category of my directory. It's funny, but that section of my directory seems to get a lot of visitors and what's even stranger is that that section has some of the highest PR ratings. 4's 3's and 2's for inner sub categories.

I'll accept MFA as long as the web master is willing to pay for their spot. They expect to get a good position and make money with their Adsense, and I think it only fair that I'm compensated for helping them.

There are some sites that display adsense prominently but are also very good sites. Those are worth listing.

You're right - Hosting, domain fees, maintenance and few other things are not free. It is understandable to have ads, but keep it clean and organized.

You should be alright as longs as you have lots of content and you don't use to many ads on each page.
