What is the effect of 301 redirect with ill-performing domains?

    Hi,
About one year ago, I purchased dozens of expired domains with a lot of backlinks. Since then, about 1/4 of them have been removed from Google's index, 1/4 are still in the index but get almost no traffic from Google, and the rest are OK.

I don't know what to do with the de-indexed and ill-performing domains.
    - Would a 301 redirect towards a new or existing domain will have a positive impact? I guess that the pagerank will be transmitted, but what about the penalization * on those domains?

    - Or do I need to wait until the domains perform well again? As the performance of a domain in Google is a highly variable thing.

    thanks in avance

    * My reactivated domains that rank bad suffer from some kind of penalization. As re-activated domains are considered as new domains by Google, one can think that it is a simple sandbox effect. But I would tendt to think that it is something else, stronger than the sandbox effect and specific to expired domains.

google nixes the power of backlinks from expired domains, you know. they're not worth anything in almost all cases.

you're not being penalized. you're just not getting the benefit from those links, that's it.

a 301 redirect will not hurt you, and likely will not help you, either... unless you're redirecting from an untrusted/sandboxed domain to a trusted/unsandboxed one.

i´ve been searching if a 301 redirect from a penalized domain will transmit it´s penalization to the destination domain, and this is the only i found about it

i wonder if any of you have any experience about it, it means, let´s say i have 2 domains, and one get penalized, then if i do a 301 to the second domain, will the penalization be transfered as well? will just don't help but don't penalize it?

you may understand that this has some different aspects, one that makes me worry is if a competitor deliverately do it, so i guess it should not transmit the penalization to avoid this kind of situations, am i right?

301 redirection will not hurt you,

There are more chances to help a new domains, but not at all it hurts your website.
