I BEG your pardon??? Mind you, such increasingly strident and offensive accusations as that are a good indicator of rising frustration at being unable to find a single volunteer to accept payment. This might be an ideal time to remind everyone that not only do corrupt editors instantly and permanently lose their accounts, but any bribe attempt can also result in a permanent listing ban on all the sites involved. By the way, how I choose to spend my own time is absolutely no concern of anyone's, but as the more venal members here seem to have difficulty understanding the concept of altruism, I'll explain that I post here in an effort to provide reliable information about the Open Directory Project, and to answer questions from those with open minds. If anyone here fits that description, I will be happy to help them.
Two questions: 1. Did you even consider the trustworthiness of the source, or do you just believe everything you read? 2. Even IF the poster paid someone, how on earth do you know it was an editor? I've seen a great many people claiming to be editors in order to part some fools from their money, and there's no shortage of fools.
makrhod, will you include a link of mine in your category for 1000$? Come one! Your girlfriend/wife deserves that Hawaii getaway, right? ... I'll PM you right now so we can keep this secret. Don't worry no one will ever know ... I won't post it on public forums LOL anyways guys, I'm just kidding. This conversation is going nowhere. You have your opinion, I have mine. Good luck to DMOZ, he lost a battle but he didn't lose the war... remember Obama's words "YES WE CAN!" ... keep hiring 'em editors! Check their resumes thoroughly though, especially the extra curricular activities and hobbies sections Peace and love to the human race, constantly seeking perfection
Have you seen how much everyone laughs when people "joke" about having drugs or weapons in their bags as they go through customs? Indeed. The same lack of hilarity applies to equally asinine "jokes" about bribing editors.
At last I think you might have got the point. Phew. So, to return to the subject of this thread, I hope it is now clear to everyone that "the easiest way to get into DMOZ" is not by offering a bribe, but simply by having a worthwhile site with plenty of unique content. Attempting to pay for a listing is not only completely unnecessary, but extremely foolish.
in the contrary son, this thread is a living proof that it's way too complicated to get a site indexed in DMOZ. 5 pages of argumentation and still going... search all over this forum, you'll find only people disappointed with your dear directory... my advice for newbies, forget DMOZ. You don't need it to get the visiblity you want. Focus on creating valuable content and submitting your stuff to social media networks. Then when you get successful enough, you can get a listing on Wikipedia, way better
Hi Sam, You have a very tough problem which officially does not have any solution. ALmost every response you will get will be a kind of Trial & Error. I personally have tried lot many time to get my client's website listed in DMOZ and have applied all possible ideas but there seems to be no results. They have a very very very strong criteria and they might also monitor the site for the time being to check whether it is a real business and worth including in their database. As Google and all other major search engines consider the DMOZ database, it might not be too easy to get listed. But yes, try doing it for several time and check the timings when they open the thread to submit the site. All the best. Regards, Nishit Patel.
I only need to search for a few moments to find people satisfied with DMOZ. Here's one: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1303126 Please provide accurate stats to back up any case you want to make. Saying only to imply zero suggests you have not actually looked yourself. And, as we all know, inaccuracies are only ever peddled by the confused, or those with a political agenda.
dear god this section of the forum is full of dmoz soldiers... in the meantime millions of people are waiting for their site to be reviewed/approved... keep waiting people, the editors are working hard to get your site reviewed as quickly as they can
So in other words, you have no evidence. Why won't you come up with the goods and respond to the repeated requests rather than go off on tangent. All you have done is repeat what others have written in forums about corruption. Any intelligent person could see that none of them produced evidence and were just repeating the same urban myth.
=========== LOL, so in a forum named ODP/Dmoz you expected what... Yahoo editors? Of course they are going to answer, if someone called me "lazy", "corrupt", etc, I'd answer. So would you. Human nature. In fairness to the dmoz guys, you're criticizing 'em for not fulfilling a role they never offered to perform. If you want an expedient review, there are numerous directories that pay someone to stand by and handle submissions in a timely manner. Dmoz just isnt one of 'em. You want that service, fine, go where it is offered. One forum click up you'll find lists of them. So instead of lingering in forums calling them lazy for not fulfilling your expectations and accusing them of assorted other things... just submit it there for free (takes less time than you've spent in this thread) and move on to other methods. Simple. This is a lot of fuss over nothing. Always has been. My 2 cents. ~
But if you are lazy and corrupt, wouldn't be much better to try to change if you don't like people opinion about you than just repeat a nonsense denial and make yourself a laughing stock on top of everything else? The only thing some of the senior ODP editors have achieved here is to prove that on top of closing their eyes to wide spread and organizational corruption in DMOZ, they are not even capable of understanding simple concepts like "completed transaction" and "positive review". They can believe in their own mind that they can fool people by repeating the same nonsense but any intelligent person will look at their post and just laugh and will think, with these type of people as senior editors in DMOZ, no wonder ODP is in such a deep sh*t.
The amount money passing through Mafia is much more than the economy of many countries. The drug lords in Mexico and Columbia are among some of the wealthiest people in the world. I don't call Mafia or those people deep success, I suppose it all depends on how much principal you have and how you define success.
When it comes to DMOZ, the right thing to say is :" This tree has a few good apples." The corruption in DMOZ is deep and organizational and it is not a question of few individuals.
LOL. Thank you for such a funny joke. Who do you think is behind the organizational corruption? The simple editors who can only edit a category with 5 listings in it and have nothing to say about how DMOZ is managed?
LOL. Organizational corruption?. We didnt shift to a discussion about Wall Street, Congress, or drug cartels while I wasn't looking did we? You make the place sound so dramatic. We are still talking about a website where obsessive compulsives login and stick URLs in neat little alpha sorted rows categorized by type, right? And I thought editors needed a real hobby. Imagine being one of the guys that dedicates years to bitching about 'em. LOL
DMOZ is in major decline... sorry to hurt you editors feelings here. Like I said, does anyone know anybody who goes to DMOZ to look for information... plus Webmasters of quality websites don't bother with submitting to dmoz, they know it's a waste of time. That is why editors have to go look for quality websites themselves... Open Directory Project... the only thing that's open about it is editor's wallets... or paypal accounts for that matter... you wanna make it really open? Turn it into a wiki and give everyone the opportunity to edit it and see the activity on each category... I'll see flying elephants before that ever happens.
