    Google's most important factor in ranking sites is backlinks. The quantity and quality of backlinks.

    As for Yahoo, I don't know the most important factor. Maybe backlinks too I suppose. However they definitely have quite different algorithms if your compare the results. Any ideas?

    quality backlinks are the common thing in both, yahoo crawls more and fast backlinks than google.And the traffic will be more from google than yahoo.

    Big difference in search engine share. According to Hitwise, an online intellegence service, in a report released today, Google received 68.29% of U.S. searches in May 2008 - a 5% increase over the same period last year. Yahoo received 19.95% of U.S. searches - a .33% decrease over last year. The report shows Google rocking in the UK with 87.3% of all searches for the same period with Yahoo trailing with only 4.09%.

    Yahoo appreciates on site optimization more and doesn't really consider the quality of the link as google does. in Yahoo it's more quantity than quality.
