What is the difference between SQL and sql server?

    SQL Server is Microsoft's database application like MySQL, Oracle Database, and PostgreSQL. I always thought Microsoft was rather arrogant for naming their product such a generic name, like they would be the defacto SQL vendor or something.

    I am SQL Server 2005 user and need urgent solution for recovery of MDF files which are corrupt. Can anyone provide me a quick solution such as any data recovery software or any other solution.

    There is one more tool in the data recovery market i.e SysTools SQL Recovery 4.9 which works brilliantly in all corruption situations and helps to recover MDF files and corrupted SQL files from SQL Server Database. I have used this tool for recovery of SQL files which are corrupt.

    I bought this utility systools sql recover and found this software very helpful as I could recover all the corrupt mdf files quickly and perfectly.

    As many have replied, SQL Server is the application owned by Microsoft and SQL is the programming language.
    Now, the vendors usually modify the base language (SQL) creating its own extension, for example, Microsoft's is named T-SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, but the base for all of them is SQL. I'm not allowed to post links but you could search in wikipedia for SQL, there is a "Procedural extensions" chart that can help you to understand this.

    sql means structured query language, sql is a language but sql-server is a product of microsoft which support sql.
