I am looking to purchase photoshop for my home computer. We use photoshop cs3 at school and I would like to work on projects at home at the most affordable cost. We use most of the features of cs3 at school. What is the major difference between the original photoshop and photoshop elements?

There have 5 main different between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements

    1. Photoshop is like the full version and Elements is simplified to give easier usage to amateur or casual photographers.
    2. Photoshop Elements is a 1/6th of the price of Photoshop
    3. Photoshop Elements have simplified settings such as an Automatic red-eye removal and the Cookie Cutter.
    4. Photoshop has High Dynamic Range and CMYK, whereas Elements doesn't.
    5. Photoshop has advanced color management, Elements is far more simplified.

    I hope it help

Photoshop Elements is great for manipulating images that you intend to use on websites. For me, I upgraded to the full Photoshop software for two reasons. Firstly, when I needed to review graphic layouts prepared by professional designers (elements wouldn't open these files). Secondly, when I needed to prepare CMYK files for printing.

    Hope this helps.

Photoshop has many more features and tools as copared to elements, and has better support for advanced formats, like RAW images, CMYK color mode, and 16-bit images.
Photoshop also has been designed with layer-style editing in mind.
Photoshop is a more precise tool in expert hands.

Adobe Photoshop is the newest release of the powerful and respected Photoshop program, which is designed for the professional market. Adobe Photoshop Elements is a cheaper version of Photoshop

    Photoshop vs. Photoshop Elements

One of the ongoing arguments as well as frequent questions is "which program should I buy... Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?" Now, when someone requests this question in the Design Coffee shop record or the Design Coffee shop record it brings as many different views as there are those who wish to reply. There are the Photoshop diehards and the Photoshop wannabes against the Components diehards and the totally confused. In almost all conversations, Photoshop almost always victories. But there's more to this story then that.

Photoshop is a pricier option when compared to Photoshop Elements. However, Photoshop CS5 offers more features when compared to Elements. These include the following:
    · Channels Palette
    · Recording custom Actions (for batch processing)
    · Adjustments: Color Balance, Match Color
    · Layer Comps, and Quick Mask mode
    · Smart Objects, Smart Guides
    · Lens Blur Filter
    · Vanishing Point Tool

Some users of both Photoshop and Elements have developed some add-ons and additional tools that also allow you to use the same features using Elements.
So ultimately, the decision is left to you. Depending on the type of usage and the requirement of these features, you can decide to go for either Photoshop or cough up some extra bucks for Elements and take advantage of several useful features.
    Hope this helps !
