We use On page SEO direct on web page like content, keywords, tag editing etc. While off page SEO is done indirectly for our web site to generate quality links. A useful point is that we do off page seo to get our keywords on top position, but to continue this position we require technical work that can be done by on page seo.

On-page SEO basically refers for optimizing the website to make it user friendly and simultaneously search friendly which will enable it to have better ranking and provide the desired results. Off-page SEO includes all the strategies and techniques that one adopts to ensure that the website is found by the search engines in other words to improve the ranking or have better traffic. The most opted off-page methods are directory submission,
article submission, classifieds posting, blog commenting and posting, press releases, and social bookmarking to name a few.

As a summary: ON-page SEO is completely on your hands, is on your site:
    - Internal linking
    - External linking
    - Meta tags (title, description)
    - Headers (H1, H2, H3 tags)
    - Bolding and italics
    - The words you put on your links
    - Breadcrumbs
    - Navigation and menues
    - Having a sitemap

Off-Page: it depends more on your competition
    - Backlink strategies (it depends on how much competition you have for a certain keyword)
    - Google +, Facebook likes, twits (now Google is taking this into account for their SE Results)

If i am saying in simple way so ON page and OFF Page is two important Part of SEO ..

On-page SEO is designing the website in User friendly way. Which User Can Operate Easily . and Make Meta tags , Define Website tittle, keyword , description . Title of the website page should have the relevant and specific keywords so that it attracts more users and similarly knowing about the market demand can have competition with other websites or you can use specific keywords which are less used in other websites to catch traffic.

Off-page SEO is to build your link stonge in search engine,by optimize your website in search engine.it gets the link from other linked websites back with reference to the keywords. Talking about backlinks it is necessary to have quality links with relevant keywords so it gives meaning to the website.

Simply put, onpage SEO is what you can do on your page to increase the search engine and other traffic and money making aspects of the site. This means working on keyword density, having a site map, ad placement, images having alt text, and so on. This is stuff that you can change on your page.

Off page SEO is what can be done outside of your page in order to increase its rankings. This includes social bookmarking and creating quality backlinks to your site. You should do this through commenting on popular .gov and .edu dofollow blogs. You can also get backlinks from places like Ezines.com or other article directories, but now Google seems to be looking down upon that idea.

I hope this helped you get a new understanding of onpage and offpage SEO.
