When I setup my adsense units, there is a choice between text only, image only, text_image? What are the benedits between all of them? Thanks.

text ads are, errr, text only
    image ads are images only

text ads tend to do better as visitors are less likely to click on an image ad

So by default, text should be used at all time?

What is the point for image only? I think there must be some kind of advantage over text in certain situation? Right?

The point? The point is so that you have a choice, should you wish to have them. Maybe on your site they do better, depends on your design and user-base I guess... This is where you go away and try it for a week with image ads, then a week with text ads ;)

Sorry for the confussion. What I mean was: is image gear toward CPM and text is gear toward CPC?

Text is per-click only, but images can be either, see the AdSense help. Whether images or text or both are good for your site is really a question only you can answer...

Actually per-impression(CPM) ads can be either text or image ads as well. CPM is available only for site-targeted ads. See:

How does CPM pricing work? Why is it being offered?

Thanks, well since Google does not specify how much they pay for click or CPM. Does anybody have any insight on how they compute the values?

Its a bid process...Its whatever the Advertiser pays minus Googles commision

CPM only kicks in if someone chooses to advertise on your site specifically

Ah, good point, I forgot about the expanded text ads being CPM. Well, sort of: mentally, I think of them as image ads, the same way that text ads show up in AdSense for feeds...

The main thing with CPM is that the advertisers have to choose to display those kinds of ads on your site.

What do you mean by "CPM only kicks in if someone chooses to advertise on your site specifically" exactly?

You don't get paid for impressions unless someone chose your site in their AdWords account. For most people it is PPC only.

    Pay Per Click

You may want to read Googles literature first as they will answer 99% of your basic questions

images - image ads (banners), text - pretty obvious, images & text - both. text has higher ctr as was said earlier, because it's more relevant and because people simply don't notice banners, they became a part of every website that's why they are being ignored more
