For optimizing your website for all search engines you have to do SEO works for it and most of them are similar together . for example making backlinks , article submission , social bookmarking , directory submission . but google and yahoo use of different algorithms for ranking results and this algorithm is not clear for every one .
So do above works and be sure you get good traffic from google. , yahoo and other search engines .

What you need to do to rank well in Google, Bing or Yahoo really does not differ. They each weigh some of the factors slightly different but overall the SEO is pretty much the same.

for Yahoo, you just have to do Directory Submission
    and for
Google you have to follow all the guidelines of Google's Algorithm

The main difference is Google leverages votes (backlinks) while Yahoo tends to focus on Onpage elements such as the text of the page, and the meta information. Also, Yahoo most likely favors links in its own directory, dmoz, and yahoo answers.

I can't agree on what you are saying here. I can see huge difference between how certain keyword phrases rank in Google, Yahoo or Bing. At this time we are ranking better on Yahoo than Google but we still see more traffic coming from Google than from Yahoo due to most people are using Google.
If overall SEo would be pretty much the same so I don't know why we rank for a certain keyword on Yahoo #5 and on Google #85. That's not a slightly difference to me. And I do not even want to talk about MSN.

They are both the same nearly. your main focus should be your on page factors such as domain name, titles for your blog posts etc to be ranked for any search engine.

it's an interesting question. The answer should be that there is no difference but I have always found that the majority of my search engine traffic comes via google and so have optimised for google.

thats not true. yahoo (now bing) is very different than google. bing is MUCH easier to dominate...google wont allow mass link spamming...bing..well.uhm...

i agree with you but the thing is the huge traffic you can drive from Google, you cannot get from other search engines.
