Blogroll link means link in sidebar and it looks like link alone while link in blog post looks like natural link in content.

Blogroll links always stay on the front/main page and so it also is little more expensive than the in-content links, which tends to slip to the inner pages after a while!

Incontent links are the best.. specially when it comes from a related site/page ;)

However, in the case of blogs.. incontent links usually places within a blog post, and when another posts gets into the blog homepage (Index) then the post containing your link will be moved to the second/3rd/4th page based on the total posts on that particular blog..

Afterall, the blog post will have it's own page with the incontent link placed on it but not on the blog home page..

I don't want to make this post long, but blogroll links useually goes sitewide and your link will be placed on every single page of that blog ;)

Hope i was clear and helpful ?

Blogpost link : Only one link pointing to your site from one page.
Blogroll link: Backlink from every page pointing to your site.
Blogroll links are much costlier than blogpost links.

    Thanks.

blog roll is like the usual link exchange.. unlike with blog post.. its more natural linking and SE loves it..

I prefer being in the blogroll, on all pages.

The best of both worlds is to have an in-content link from a blogpost and to have that blogpost linked from the blogroll.

Blogroll is the usual link exchange
Backlinks are links inter-connecting posts which can help you in getting better page rank and better keyword search result in google.
