Back links are those links which are pointing to your site from other sites and external links are those links which are pointing to other site from your site. Means suppose your site is A and other sites are B, C and D. If B, C, and D has a link which are pointing to your site (A) then those links will be counted as back links for site A. Similarly if site A have links which are pointing to B,C and D then those links will be counted as a external link for site A

    Simple way of putting it....

backlink = inbound link to your site.
external link = outbound link on your web page to another website's web page.

Backlinks are the links that make the visitors come to your site from other pages/sites.
External links are the links present in your pages that take the visitors away from that page.

Are you submitting to those directories who want a backlink.

    If yes, dont do this.

There are many free directories which provide one-way link.
    Try those.

I think you haven't understood the diff between backlinks and external links till now.

External Links are the outgoing links from your site, you can easily minimise them, either by removing unnecessary outgoing links or by putting 'rel=nofollow' to your outbound links so that the PR wont pass to them from your site.

Backlinks are completely different. Those are inbound links. You can build backlinks by submitting to directories, social bookmarking sites etc etc. Those are treated as votes for your site in the eye of search engine. Build more & more backlinks. Its not a overnight process. Do it regularly. Hope its clear now. :)

thanks for this information about external link and back link. but my point is that
back link = link to the website from other website
external link = link from your website to the other website.
number of external links should be less than back link.

I can't tell if you understand or not so I'll give it a try.

External Link = A gift from you to another site

Backlink = A gift from another site to you.

    site A-------------B

if site A passes link to site B

then site B got a back link and for site A that will count external link.

    Now..

    similarly..

    site B-----A

if site B passes link to Site A

then site A got a back link and for site B that will count external link.

Backlinks and external links are totally different from each other. That's why their amount is different also. Backlinks are the links which stays in another website and those websites have the link of your webpage and thus link back to your site. On the other hand external links are the links which stays in your websites and tell other to visit other website from your page. So, the twos are fully different.

The term "external link" really doesn't mean anything. Or everything. It could be a link from your domain to another domain or vice versa. But most often, SEOs consider external links to be the same as backlinks.......

Let's say that you have website A, with the domain aaa.com ...

    • Any link that points to a page within website A is a backlink (at least it is from YOUR point of view). These links could come from other websites, but also from within website A.
    • Any link from website B pointing to website A is an inbound link. Some people would also call it an "external link", but like I said earlier, that term is a bit ambiguous. Inbound links form a subset of backlinks.
    • Any link from website A pointing to website B is an outbound link.
    • Any link from website A pointing to website A is an internal link. Most internal links are actually navigation links or nav links. These are also backlinks, but not as powerful as inbound links.
    • Any link in the categories mentioned above can -- at the webmaster's choice -- be turned into a nofollow link. In that case, Google sees little or no value in it for SEO purposes. No so-called "link juice" is passed. Nofollow links have the attribute rel="nofollow" in the code.
    • Any link that doesn't have the nofollow attribute -- be it intentionally or accidentally -- is considered a dofollow link. These have direct and often positive impact on your Google rankings, even if they are internal links.

A links that link other websites from your website called external links. While a links that link to your website from other domains called back-links. Both are considered by search engines.

wrong.... that would be an internal link

I was gonna reply to every stupid thing you said but it's a waste of time. Dude, you contradict yourself like 3 fn times...
it really sucks that people come here to learn or get info about something and there are so many people giving wrong info...
