    Hey folks,

Sorry for totally "stupid" question but I really need to know.

What is the deal with VPS and RAM? Here is my situation.

I have a HostGator shared hosting account and a MediaTemple Grid service account with a MySQL grid container.

Now the mediatemple is $40 a month and the hostgator is $10. Media Temple offers a VPS with 256MB of ram with 80GB less space for $50. But it would let me host everything in one place (I need to keep the hostgator site separate with separate server access).

Now 256MB of RAM seems like it isn't enough to do much of anything.

Am I just thinking too hard or could someone explain it to me.

VPS with 256 allocated RAM means that any websites hosted on that VPS have only 256 of RAM to use. Moreover,it is also shared with virtualization software installed, control panel software and other websites hosted on the server.

To go with at least 512 to 1 GB ram is recommended. VPSland.com has a good deals of VPSes. You should check it out.

If you have a control panel, and medium traffic site, 256 is not enough. Its all depend on your needs. Since yo are allready talking mysql, I wuld go with the suggestion above and get a 512+ megs ram vps.

I can point you to a good VPS provider and I'm using it for about 1/2 year without a problem. Drop me a pm and I will give you the link. ^^
