Okay I have been blogging for quite some time now, but Ive been hearing alot of people saying theyve been getting spam on their blog, so they have to install a plugin like karma, and Im just curious, how does spam effect a blog? and What type of spam is it, because to my knowledge none of my blogs have been spammed.

Hi King spam on blogs is basically when people leave comments to your posts with links to their sites that have nothing to do with what you are talking about, or they leave affiliate links, etc Talk about viagra when you are posting about technology. Stuff like that

The only time this tends to be aproblem is if you don't have your blog set on that comments must be approved by the webmaster before being posted.

The reason some people turn this off is because number 1 their blog software might not have this feature, and number 2 because they get tons of comments a day and don't want to have to approve them all all the time.

If you don't personally approve the comments yourself, then I would recommend getting a program like karma or at least making sure you have captcha code on your blog.

I get tons of spam, but not one item gets posted on the blog. It's best to moderate all comments, no matter how many times they have posted on your blog - that way, your blog stays spam free.

I got a good one the other day appealing to my vanity.
Wrapping up something in a compliment might get their Viagra sales
    etc shown on more blogs,
    but not mine. :)

You can try Akismet. It really helps with spammers.

Of course to be sure, you have to approve comments manually ;)
