It depends. Average I think it's reasonable to get 500 word article for $5, by non-US writers. US writers charge more. You can get higher or cheaper price than this of course, but it's the quality and the writer you choose.

You get what you pay for. I have purchased articles for less than $1 per 500 words but the quality isn't good, at all and I couldn't use them. Fiverr has some pretty good writers
it's probably stitched together using software. In which case, it's WAY overpriced. You can get software generated stuff that reads as good as your typical $1 'eengleesh not my first language' articles for about 3 CENTS a pop. Which is how the pro autobloggers manage to fill up their 500 domains.
