What is the correct way to write Meta Name Keywords?

    Hi,

    I have been writing the Meta Name Keywords for the pages on my site for years by separating each keyword with a comma and never repeating the same word twice, like in the following example:

    <meta name="keywords" content="mortal,kombat,armageddon,mk,mka,playstation,2,ps2,psx2,sony,cheats,cheat,codes,cheatcodes,hints,secrets,tricks,tips,passwords,glitches,new,video,games,faqs,strategy,guides,help,reviews" />

    However, I have noticed that all of my competition writes their Meta Name Keywords differently. Here is an example of how they might write their Meta Name Keywords for the same game using my example:

    <meta name="keywords" content=" Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Cheats for PlayStation 2, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Codes for PS2, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Cheat Codes, MK, MKA, Game Cheats, Video Game Codes, Cheatcodes, Cheat, Hints, Secrets, Tricks, Tips, Passwords, Glitches, Video Games, Sony, PSX2" />

    If I am trying to rank well for when people search for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Cheats, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Codes, and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon Cheat Codes, what would be the better way of writing the keywords, or does it even matter? If it does matter and I have been writing them incorrectly, how much of an effect do you think it has had on my SERPs? Does it matter more on Google, MSN, or Yahoo, or are they all the same? If I have been writing them incorrectly and they have been affecting my SERPs on the three main search engines, do you think going back and changing the way I wrote them for game pages would make a difference as far as my SERPs? Thank you all for your help.

    -Dave

    First off, the big 3 (G, Y!, M) don't rely on meta keywords at all, as far I know. But I write all the different combinations of my phrases and keywords, and repeating the same keywords in different phrases won't penalize you.

    And don't forget to capitalize the first letter of the keywords:)

    You should set up unique meta tags for each page. Remove alot of the crap mentioning only whats on the page (so instead of using loads of keyterms to describe your site on a whole, use a maximum of 3 to describe whats on that page). The more keywords you have in the meta the more dilute it is and the less effect each one has.

    I know this is an old thread, but I figured it would be a good idea to post that Meta Keywords no longer have any relevancy when it comes to Google. Just a heads up! :)
