What is the Cheapest, Cost effective Ecommerce Platform?

I have an interesting stats to share. A few days back I have done research on 106 e-Commerce store to find which platform they are running. Here is what I have found so far:

Magneto = 22
Cart Functionality = 22
Custom = 12
IBM Websphere Commerce = 8
Others = 42

Now you decide which is the best platform

 

I guess the cheapest solution is WooCommerce it is easy to setup, its for small websites mainly, I have setup woocommerce in 5 website and Magento in 3

 

As others have suggested, Wordpress and the WooCommerce plugin is probably the most affordable set-up you can find. It's good too.

All you need to pay for is a domain and webhosting. The Wordpress CMS, Wordpress theme and WooCommerce plugin are all free.

 

In my experience, Shopify has been really great for me. For $30/month it handles pretty much all you need to run the business. I like that it has a ton of integrations for payments, shipping etc... I was able to setup my first store within a day. Very easy.

Only downside is that their Liquid language is kind of hard to understand (at least it was for me) so editing the templates is a bit tricky even if you know HTML/CSS

Here's another vote for getting various WooCommerce subscriptons or similar WP plugin for ecommerce purposes. It's simple, easy to install, maintain and understand, especially considering the reason so many people use Wordpress in order to all keep things related to their site readily managable. Paid subscriptions should cover whatever special functions are needed for the particular needs of the site.

 

As has been mentioned before, I really have to wonder if you're ready to get into eCommerce at a serious level without having the money to throw at it. A lot of free eCommerce sites either don't work that well, look super generic, or both, and those are a fast recipe to lose customers, if you get any in the first place.

Try to save up some money and find a way to work within Magento, I've used it a few times and it's always been a good call. It'll help your store fulfill orders more easily and let you customize its look so you don't look like another shady 'fill a template' store like they all turn into. Then make sure you have some money set aside for huge advertising, otherwise you're not going to get anywhere.
