I think the cause of unhappiness would be lack of direction. When you don’t know what you want to be, and you have no idea why you exist then this will create a feeling of dissatisfaction and unhappiness.
I double that. Especially when you give your best and you know you couldn't have done any better at given situation and you fail. Although happiness is really not something that someone or something will give you, but you have to appreciate things and people that you have and be thankful for what you have and only then you would be able to be happy. There are situations in life that will get you down and being happy 100% of the time is impossible... Otherwise you would be in a mental hospital IMHO. But I think you have to be a bit more realistic when it comes to expectations in life, because otherwise you will always be unhappy because you don't get what you expect for... Even if it's not your fault. Personally, I try to be realistic and persistent at the same time. When you fall, get up , move and and pursue your goals/dreams. It's not always a rainbow to go for your goals, but in my opinion only those who keep trying will get to the point in the end. Never give up and always believe in yourself and in what you are doing even if others don't. That's the best formula I could think of and it works in my life. Cheers!

It depends on the person, but it mostly comes down to not having what you want to have or being the person you want to be. The thing is though that regardless of who you are and where you're from, everyone always find some kind of reason to be unhappy at some point in their life. Its almost like a life lesson for all, learning to deal with being unhappy and kicking unhappiness' butt, once you master this you're set.
The human mind is capable of so many thought processes that it's bound to, at some point, release the chemicals that make us feel unhappy. Do the things which stimulate you and avoid those which you have developed a negative vibe for. It's all chemical really.
My cause of unhappiness is my financial insolvency. I do not take money from my family rather I want to contribute to my family. But if I want to do so, I will have to earn more. Beside it, I am a happy person.
The main cause of unhappiness is the negative thoughts in our mind and making the small problems and magnifying them with disturbed mood.
For me when i feel loneliness or my DAD used to shout on me without any reason at that vary time i will be unhappy.
Of course yes, dis-satisfaction is a very much responsible for unhappiness & less concentration towards work, eg. it leads to less earning (may be) & again unhappiness. @ dear amitoops, do you really feel parents shout on you..without any reason ?
