I have been looking all around at Youtube clone scripts and am coming up a little short. Does anyone have any first hand experience with any of these scripts?
Here's a thread where we discussed this at some length: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1436283 It was a rather fun conversation, actually Basically, you're coming up short for a reason. Bottom line, most of the video sharing scripts are commercial and encrypted. Also, many if not most are not really good. The reason it's hard to give in-depth reviews for any of them is that you have to buy them first. Yeah, I'm gonna spend good money in the hopes that a product doesn't suck. You may be better off looking into, say, Drupal or Joomla and using one of these CMS to build your own site. That way, if you want to expand in the future, it'll be no problem because both systems are modular. I've personally used HWDVideoShare for Joomla and can vouch for this product. It's not free, but really cheap (about, oh, $30 bucks USD) and the support is really good. Also, you can download a free, fully functional version of HWDVideoShare to evaluate it before you decide to upgrade to the PRO version. Both the free and paid version are well documented at the project's home site (http://hwdmediashare.co.uk). I know a lot of Drupalers out there can chime in regarding their system modules. If you don't want to go the CMS route, the ONLY thing I know of that's freely available is PHPMotion. However, it is encrypted. But, since it's free, you can download and evaluate it to see if it meets your needs. The key to this succeeding, in addition to the platform you select, is your hosting environment. So long as your server is set up with all the various dependencies (i.e., FFMPEG, Mencoder, LLAME, and potentially other stuff), you should be good to go.
Clipbucket... oh, the humanity! I couldn't get that thing installed to save my life, and I've installed several packages over the years. I haven't played with the most recent version, however, so some things may have been fixed. The one thing I truly hated, other than the annoying 500 error, was that you had to install it all manually. Right now, it looks like ClipBucket is preparing for Version 2.0 which, according to the developers, is not going to be just another YouTube clone. I think I'll wait until that version to test again, as the 1.x version completely turned me off. One thing I WILL tell you... you'd better read the Terms of Use for ANY of these media packages. Some of them are downright onerous. I don't think ClipBucket's was all that bad, but there was something in there I didn't like when I read it once before (though I don't recall specifically what at the moment). I wish SOMEONE would release an open source product that supports H.264 (in the MP4 and MOV wrappers), and true audio files without converting them to FLV format (at least MP3). Then I'd be truly happy. Until then, I've hacked my HWDVideoShare to support all of the above, as I refuse to pay good $$ for just another freakin' Tube.
Hello, Well i think clipbucket is the best (http://clip-bucket.com) reason it is free. @Bratzilla , yea i have heard that many of peoples get problem while installing. but i am damn sure it is hell easy. the errors you told is because of wrong .htaccess file. And by the way if you are not able to install just purchase there installation service and they will install and configure everything for you. (Try to get discount via chat ) And yea there version 2 is coming out. see blog.clip-bucket.com the developer also presented the comparison of 2 conversions. one high quality and other normal. but as i told you it is 100% free so you should atleast give it a try
I'll take your word for it. Bottom line - if I'm going to go through all that trouble for a script (and this one was real trouble), then it'd better be more than just another tube clone. Give me native MP3 playback, easy MP4 support or SOMETHIN' unique. Too much effort to go through just to effectively play videos - but, that's just me.
One thing to remember about ClipBucket and many of these scripts is that you will need FFMPEG support on your host, which is usually no provided on shared hosting plans. You will need to spend more money on a VPS plan.
