I would say at least for me it is hostmonster, seen its adverts everywhere, can really remember it by heart.

Never expect my answer to be the same as the post above :)

I would say Hostgator, Yahoo, Godaddy are some of the largest web hosts out there.

Yahoo and GoDaddy are *tiny* in terms of hosting despite being large companies - hosting is a sort of "afterthought" for them.

Hostgator, 171 etc are the big names, although the only people you generally hear saying good things about them are the affiliates earning $100 /signup.

"Best" is a subjective term and waaaaay to broad a concept - best at what ?

I'm going to have to reiterate the hostmonster deal....

first of all, I use them and they are VERY reliable, I have never had downtime in 6 months...

bandwidth.... well it's hard to beat 6000GB monthly transfer for $5.95, and unlimited domains on 1 account.

customer service - I've called hostmonster at 3 AM and talked to someone live. they are knowledgable and very helpful. I couldn't imagine how they could improve their customer service, honestly. Not to mention cpanel and ALL the goodies you'd expect....

I would say GoDaddy is the most well-known but I wouldn't say the best.

    I heart Dreamhost.

But it depends on what you're after. If you're on a really tight budget, there's many other cheaper plans from reasonably well known money. But if you're willing to spend a bit more on hosting for security and reliability, I recommend Dreamhost all the way. It's the best value for money in all aspects, for me at least :D

1&1 sucks badly ... try byethost.com premium plans at just 3$/month .... best deal imo

i wouldn't say godaddy is the most widely known for hosting, domains yes, there are a number of larger hosts/providers that offer decent hosting, as i hear..

It would seem most of these companies are overselling because of competition. Perhaps it might be best to find a mid-sized company that doesn't oversell.
