What is the best website to use to create a website? (Under $500)

Hello all, I am new here. I am thinking about creating my own website. I have seen a ton of different web design sites, but I do not know which one to use. Do any of you have a specific site in particular that is very easy to work with, cheap, and can actually get your site up and running?

What types of websites do you want to create? Do you just want static sites with just text and images or do you want ones with e-commerce capabilities? If you want just simple static sites then go to Weebly.com and play around with their drag and drop interface. The sites won't be on your own domain though.

If you want to use a CMS then go with Wordpress. It's the most widely used blog platform which can also be used as a CMS. You can also install Joomla which is a very robust open source CMS.

 

If you are looking for a what you see is what you get solution, I would check out squarespace.com

If you're looking for a home on the internet for your self or for your business, I suggest you stay away from any sort of online editor - they ALL place unnecessary coding inside of your markup.

Do you want people to know you're there? You'll also need search engine friendly markup, not attainable with online editors.

if you are going to do business than you should find a good company that provide good services. If you choose a poor company than your business can be affected so find a good designing company.

The cheapest and most efficient way to create a website is to download WordPress, find a good looking free theme, install the theme, and add content. Once the site is live, you can play around with the theme or even buy a professional theme for under $50.00.

 

This is what I did. It's very easy to learn. Get a hosting account somewhere like dreamhost.com and it will install it for you. Buy a domain name and go from there. You can host unlimited domain names at dreamhost and probably other hosting sites.

If you want to create a website thats hosted by a another company, I recommend Tumblr or Blogger.com .. these sites get alot of traffic from the search engines and you have the option to use your own domain, lots of choice for themes/templates.
