Tito, spammers will make use of a tool, regardless if or if not you try to make it harder, but for people who actually do want to use it, you make it harder.

this is like saying "I am not releasing my google xml sitemap generator for wordpress because so many spammers use wordpress". :)

Automated twittering only does rise suspicion if you raise flags. What are twitters flags? First and formost the followers / following ration.

The amount of tweets you send is limited to 100/h (depending on your status it may be less). This alone should tell you that automated tweets are not a problem and in fact, many people use just that.

The problem with too many tweets or too advertising is the other way round: if too many people find that annoying or spammy, they will block you and thus alert twitter HQ. Then they will examine your twitter user to determine if you are worthy on staying or not.

It then helps to have a normal profile with a normal behaviour. And this can also mean: "hi this is the stocksonwallstreet account for new stock quotes every minute"

In this case, that is the purpose of your twitter account. As long as you do not indulge in the usual spammy links (like tweeting about "look at my forex! click here! pick me pick me!!") you should be fine - even with enough quotes.

In your case though you might not have the local stuff to use autotweeter but rather a tool like twitterfeed because your updates are more often.

I can not understand that people have that many difficulties in using twitter ... it is an microblogging service, so think about it as an blog with just 140 char per post.

Would you read a blog that is actually posting a link to the authors sells page in every post ?

So why do you think people would be interested in reading about your site every hour ? Just add the link to your profile and then point people who ask questions about your niche to articles on your site. But it is important that if you plan to use twitter only to generate traffic, I suggest you better leave it as that is not the sense of twitter.

I realize the best way is to just be a normal twitter and promote your articles once in a while

the thing is that anyway...people are really clicking the links in the tweet message..the URL shortening services like bit.ly offers tracking of the links too. IMHO tweets with links are worth it.

When I post a message in twitter with a shortened link to my site, I can see the page views increase. But in my google analytics, twitter does not reflect as referral site. Why is that so?

I'm not positive but I think it's at least partially due to using a URL shortener. When I use a full URL, it does usually show up in analytics.

The best way to utilize twitter for traffic is just increase the followers of your account and follow relevant people on twitter.

You don’t just post and read on Twitter, you can discuss and make connections too.

Be careful that you do not follow more Twitter users than you can handle, this kind of thing can really leach on your time. The way I have gathered contacts is by gradually following other peoples conversations and following who they reference. You will find a lot will follow you in return or if you reply to one of their comments.

It is very important when replying to remember that your conversation is public, keep it interesting for those outside the conversation too by making it inclusive. Be clear in each “tweet” what it is you are talking about, don’t expect people to follow the whole thread, do not post too much in quick succession and don’t use shorthand or private jokes.

To reply to another Twitter user you just include their @name in your Tweet. To see who replied to you there is a “replies” link.

When you're using Twitter make sure people know what you're all about - stay with your niche, is really what I'm trying to say here. Post quality posts, which are posts that people can learn from, find entertaining or make people see YOU as an expert within your niche. Share your knowledge like crazy, don't hold back - the better the more people will check out your site. Be on twitter to help people, solve the problems your target audience have. It's ok to post a link to ressources such as your website - that converts into sales (hopefully). 80/20 rule applies here - 80% good quality content and 20% advertising.
