    If some1 wants to steal content its most proberly because they want to use it themselfs on there site, so therefore they should have enough knowledge to know to just disable javascript and then the right click script doesnt work

    Here are several options:
    1. Disable right-clicking using a javascript (is too easy to get around; just go to View / Page source).
    2. Use the source code encrypter from Dynamic Drive (again too easy to get around).
    3. Use ISO characters instead of alphanumerical characters (makes the source code incomprehensible for humans but still understandable for search-engines and web browsers).
    4. If your website is hosted on an Apache server, you can use the .htaccess file to prevent hot-linking of files. Patrick Altoft also wrote a helpful guide to .htaccess (readers can't mess with the .htaccess file).
    You may want to read this recent article about how to stop plagiarism using an image trap in the NSFW category.

    This is an important issue to me, too.

    I'm investing heavily into producing high quality images that I want to show off on my site. And the only way I can think of to effectively prevent my competitors from simply stealing them is to watermark them...but that defeats the purpose of making them look so good :(

    I have help you with that one. To stop people using them on their site while still hosted on yours, you can use hotlinking protection in htaccess or cpanel.

    To stop people copying them, you can use the no-right click script as previously discussed.

    That doesn't physically stop people copying your code. I don't think you can copyright html anyway because its too hard to prove.

    I just stumbled across this extensive .htaccess reference with useful tips on how to prevent hotlinking and blocking site rippers. You may want to read it if your website is hosted on an Apache server.

    I think that the best way to protect your content from being stolen off the web, is just don't put it out there. But that defeats the whole purpose so it's really not a solution for you.

    Is it possible to use .htaccess to stop access to the stylesheet by users but still allow it to work for the site/search engines?

    No I explained this in my post earlier. In order for a web browser to generate your website, it has to read the stylesheet. If your web browser can read the stylesheet, then anyone can read the stylesheet.

    Placing water marks over your images is a good way of preventing unauthorised people stealing your content and there is also a feature that I have observed on manyother websites whereby when a browser attempts to right click over an image, in order to attempt to c & p the image, a message will then appear stating that all content is the copyright of so and so and it impedes the brower's ability to steal your image(s).

    So you want to completely ruin the site seo wise just to stop someone trying to steal an image or code :rolleyes:

    The 2nd button blocking some people mentioned is awful also, many people use the 2nd button options for other things, and you annoy them with crappy "copyright" popups. Not a good way to entice people into buying something. Its absolutely worthless anyway, you annoy the people who don't know why you are using it, and the people who want to steal something will get around it in 2 seconds anyway.

    If you don't want someone to steal something, install it on c:// as soon as you put it on http:// its gone.

    It is possible to disable the right-click menu from showing up by inserting the following javascript into your webpage:

    function copyright()
    {
    if ((document.layers || (document.getElementById && !document.all)) && (e.which == 2 || e.which == 3))
    {
    alert("This website is copyright protected!");
    return false;
    }
    else if (event.button == 2 || event.button == 3)
    {
    alert("This website is copyright protected!");
    return false;
    }
    return true;
    }
    if (document.layers)
    {
    document.captureEvents(event.mousedown);
    document.onmousedown = right;
    }
    else if (document.all && !document.getElementById)
    {
    document.onmousedown = right;
    }
    document.oncontextmenu = new Function("alert('This website is copyright protected!');return false");
    Code (markup):
    Each time someone uses the alternate menu a message will pop up saying "This website is copyright protected!", except for those who have disabled javascript. However, like Vic_mackey said, many people get annoyed by the pop-up message and web savvy thieves can easily get around it.

    Absolutely no way to prevent your html code.
    But try to make your visitors come back to your site again and again .
    Try other successful ways that others can't copy .
