I run a commercial website that sells around 100+ products, and each product has its own page. There are some products I wish to push more than others (because I make more money off of them) and I was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting those products ranked high in search engines. Would it be worth it to go in and optimize each one of those sites? What about backlinks? Would it be worth more to spend $50 on PPC or $50 on buying links from sites with high PR to those products I want to sell? I would assume the latter because it is obviously more targeted. I'm still new at this so thanks in advance for any of your suggestions!
Firstly make damn sure you have SEO friendly URLs http://domain.com/page.php?productid=12321&category=78 You don't want anything like that, yuck! a Personally, I would be inclined to spend $50 buying up PR4/5 domains. Then you have complete control. Link those domains to your new site and you will get a better link-ROI for that $50.
Link them directly from the home page using your targeted anchor under a Monthly Discounts heading of similar. Also get regular backlinks to these pages, and have alot of keyword rich descriptive text on the pages.
Thanks Richard, my URLs are pretty SEO friendly so I don't think I'll have a problem with that. Also, for directory submission sites with good PR I have to submit my main website and not the product page, correct? Would it still be worthwhile to do this even if my main goal is to push people to go to a specific product?
