According to Matt Cutts blog. Google treats underscores as one word. Test_Word looks the same as testword to the Google spider. Test-word is looked at as two words. This can make a very big difference what keywords the page ranks in in the serps.

Man I just finished my new website and used underscores to seperate words in about all the pages. Wish I new about this sooner. But its better late than never.

Well..like i said before you shouldn't use underscores, but if you already did, dont worry, just work on other segments of your SEO.

I did that test last year and the hyphenated version came out top. The _ didn't get recognised as seperate words.

I still just changed all my underscores to dashes. Why give the competition the edge? ;)

Bear in mind that if these were indexed pages with pagerank that you just changed you will loose that page rank and any rank you had in the serps with those pages. You have just started over again. If these were new pages than dases will be better.

    What about +'s; e.g. /keyword1+keyword2/index.htm

pages names need to coincide with the content. Don`t name a page 'birds' if you are having content about 'cheese'. Write a name to fit with the content and make it about 5-8 words long, but don`t try to make it longer by adding useless words.

Dashes and underscores do not matter. I use dashes for readability purposes. Write good content.
