What is the Best Way to Move a Blog to My Site

    Hi,

We have a blog on blogspot.com (subdomain.blogspot.com). We are considering moving it to our site but I want to know the impact this will have on the blog's traffic. Once we change the settings to ftp instead of being hosted at blogspot, they say in the help pages that our subdomain will be released and someone could pick it up. This would mean we would loose traffic from search engines etc. Now if we were simply moving a site to a different domain name, I would set up a 301 redirect to help search engines know where the site has moved to. Is there anyway I can do this with my subdomain.blogspot.com? What is the best way to move a blog?

    Thanks

I don't think that blogpsot will allow you to set up a 301 redirect. You will probably lose some traffic if you do move it. Not sure if blogspot allows javascript, but maybe you could make a last post providing a link to the new blog location and it will do a javascript redirect to it after x seconds. Or the user could click on the link.

Yes blogspot don't allow to setup redirect page. Yes only in your blog if you can put your website links.

You must ask yourself what is the objective you are creating a blog? just only to get traffic and sending post.. or you want to be more advance, such as you want to do business inside your blog. If your objective is doing a business inside your blog, than you have to move from subdomain.blogspot.com to domainname.com, the consequence you will have to change all the permalinks and url you will lose traffic for a while. :)
