I have been learning about blogging a lot recently. During this time I have been devouring all books I can get my hands on and pre-writing posts to come. I have picked my topic and domain name and have plans for monetization. Also, I have learned about attracting readers and having good SEO. But one thing I am having trouble finding is how to actually debut your blog for the first time. Please tell me your stories of how you have done it, thanks!
I'm not sure I can give you any meaningful advice, because blogging appears to have changed considerably since I started in 2009. However, for what it's worth, this is what I did to get going. I joined forums where I could interact with other bloggers. I found that such places were ideal for announcing new blog posts. I visited as many blogs as I could. If I found an interesting article about a subject I'd already covered, I would leave a detailed comment, which would include a link to the post where I'd discussed the same subject. And I posted a lot of material: 69 posts in five months. As a result, I saw steady growth in readers and followers. I should note that nowadays I post only 3-4 times a month. I should also point out that I probably had a different motivation to you for starting a blog. I never had any plan to make money; it was merely an incentive to push me to do more writing, and if you were to ask me whether I succeeded, I would say that I've managed to put together some really good stuff that would never have been produced if I hadn't started a blog. I hope I've been helpful.
Depending on the niche you could do a giveaway. That is a quick way to get the word out about your blog and the prize does not have to be large or expensive.

Well, I keep reading that 80% of your blogging time should be spent promoting and reaching out to people in your niche. For example, a blogger that I am consulting with right now spends about 3 hours a day on content generation and about 4 hours a day on social (reddit, forums, commenting on other blogs, Twitter). In time he will get to where he is spending more than 4 hours a day on such efforts.

Actually it varies with the niche of your blog. I suggest you to read this article. I hope you will get some idea on launching your blog. http://www.successfulblogging.com/make-money-blogging/
Hey Vanessa! I made sure to open and promote my blog on social outlets. Depending what your niche is, open accounts on instagram, facebook, twitter, google+, tumblr,... As mentioned above, giveaways are a great idea to gain more traffic! One of the conditions to enter the giveaway should be to follow you on social media AND introduce a friend too- that way you're enlarging your reader pool. Good luck!
I've launched a concurrent twitter account/facebook account. And made connections with similar bloggers. People would be willing to share links. Also go on forums of the same subject.
Join some blogging communities that syndicate your blogs feed. If you want you can announce this is being your first blog post. Comment on other bloggers blogs and share their content. Promote, promote and promote. It is very important to continually get your blog out to the people.
