I run a finance website StocksonWallStreet and was wondering what are the best ways to index your site for critical keywords and how many? Plus how do you index different pages?

It is important to know your keywords. If you have a product that you sell on your site, ask five friends what they might search for on google/yahoo to find it. Take those different keywords and optimize your page with them.

The Keyword Effectiveness Index or KEI, is like an advanced calculation of the supply/demand ratio of a keyword.

Just by looking at the KEI number (the greater the better), you’ll be able to determine the potential effectiveness of a keyword term. It is also a great way to standardize and simplify your keywords value comparison.

The keyword effectiveness index relies on 3 concepts:

    * The KEI score of a keyword increases as its search volume increases. Such change of activity demonstrates an increase of popularity and thus interest and value for that search term.

    * The KEI score of a keyword decreases at its competition volume increases. Obviously the more people are building sites and pages around a keyword, and the more competitive this one will become. High competition level decreases the effectiveness of a keyword term and thus decreases the KEI score.

    * The KEI score of a keyword increases even if its search volume and competition volume increase proportionally. This is base on the theory that if a keyword popularity increases, even if it’s in proportion to its competition volume, the keyword terms certainly becomes more attractive than with less search volume even though the basic search/competition ratio remains the same.

It's just a case of using your imagination when using your keyword research tool of choice. Think to yourelf "what will someone type into the SE's to find my stock/finance blog."

Good point is it better to get #1 on less known keywords or top 10 on top keywords?
