I work from home and from work and when I was on windows I used a portable xampp on a usb drive and was able to have all my development work easily accessible wherever I was. Now I switched to Ubuntu which I am enjoying, however, I need to be able to keep my development files and databases with me wherever I am so I can develop on whatever ubuntu machine I am on...

I tried to do this with Virtualbox, however I am having network issues each time I switch machines.

Is there another easy way to do this on Linux?

What network issues? Can you be more specific and give us some examples of error messages or describe what isn't working?

For your question about xampp on unbuntu, have you tried dtx-controller? See the following blog for an explanation.

    Hi,

    - If you using xampp just on Linux machine everywhere then install linux version portable xampp.
    - If you using in mixed environment (windows + linux) than you can install linux & windows version portable xampp on your usb drive. You need to modify configure files both xampp to use same data directory's.
