What is the best way to generate new traffic to a website?

I'm working closely with a new client who really need some advice regarding their online marketing. They need more targeted website traffic within their industry of 'health and beauty'.

Can people please give a few recommendations of routes we could take?

I am huge into blogging. If you write one high quality blog relating to your niche everyday for 30 days you can have a good flood of traffic.
I would recommend the following for a high traffic blog:
- 400-600 words
- a youtube video with same keywords and title as blog
- Targeted keywords in your content
- At least two pictures with keywords attached.
- Get lots of blog backlinks
- Finally a call to action at the end of the blog directing them to the website

 

And don't forget to tap the social media. There are lots of tools to become visible in that area.

 

You can get the visitors traffic by different ways first SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Secondly SMO (Social Media Optimization), SMM (Social Media Marketing) and last PPC (Pay Per Click) Advertising in which you have to pay to Google for each clicks when someone visits your website through text ads by Google.

 

Exactly ! we can't ignore the role of social media now a days to generate traffic. Use all high social media sites in proper way and you will get lots of traffic form relevant visitors for your website.

Social media is the best way to promote online business ... now a days this is one of the best tool to get online traffic towards your site & it matter a lot to do with content according to me if you go for quality content then you can drive more traffic towards your site.

Posting ads on free classifieds sites will get you free targeted visitors.

Google Adword is good for this, you can buy traffic and pay only if someone click on your advertising.
Social Media like Facebook and twitter are very powerfull too.

 

You need to be able to find sites with content that attracts your typical customers and approach the owners. You want a site that's not saturated with adverts and has readers who stay. An attractive advert.

 

If your client has a budget for acquiring targeted traffic then PPC will be the best to work on specially with Google adwords,Microsoft adcentre you can get real targeted traffic.Facebook ad campaign also can be tested.If your client don't have a budget then SEO is the best approach.Although It may take time to rank for keywords in a highly competitive niche like health and beauty.

 

Try one of these methods:
- Create a blog for the website and post unique content regularly
- Run ad campaigns like PPC/CPM or direct ads
- Buy targeted traffic from good traffic providers on the net
- Increase social media presence by way of social bookmarking & media fan following

Above methods are guaranteed to give you fast results but if you are ready to devote longer time then traditional SEO is always an option.

 

SEO Organic for a more targeted traffic source, Youtube can also be of quality if you build a good constant subscriber base.

Lots of good suggestions here but one I haven't seen mentioned yet, is groupon or some other type of deal saver site as that can give them a lot of exposure.

 

Can you be more specific when you say health and beauty industry (what niche exactly)? Who is their target market? And also, what is the goal for this 'more targeted website traffic' need (Are they looking to boost online sales? Increase offline sales? Increase their brand awareness? Get more newsletter sign ups? Or something else?). What sort of a marketing budget do you guys have and the time frames in place?

The recommendations would depend on the above questions.

 

You can generate lots of quick, targeted and responsive traffic by answering people's questions, on related forums, Yahoo answers, chat rooms, groups and the like. It's much more active labor than SEO, but it will reliably bring in the visitors in the short term.
